Prenatal Care

The traditional root of the word midwife means “with woman”.  As such, prenatal care with a midwife is a fundamentally different experience than what you would expect to have with an obstetrician.  Appointments do not solely focus on the baby but the expectant Mother as well using a holistic approach of mind, body, and soul.

Walking Beside You: What to Expect

Our first meeting is a heart-to-heart—a time to share our philosophies, birth dreams, and how we’ll support one another through this transition. As your pregnancy progresses, we’ll meet more frequently to ensure you feel held and heard:

  • Monthly visits through your 32nd week.

  • Bi-weekly check-ins from 32 to 36 weeks.

  • Weekly visits from 36 weeks until we welcome your baby.

These moments together allow me to provide gentle, thorough care to protect the health and safety of your low-risk pregnancy.  During our time together, I’ll perform gentle, routine clinical checks to ensure both you and your baby are thriving. Here is what we monitor at each visit:

Blood Pressure Monitoring:

At every visit, we’ll check your blood pressure to keep a consistent baseline and ensure your continued well-being.

Fetal Growth (Fundal Height):

We’ll use a simple, non-invasive measuring tape to follow your baby’s growth and the steady development of your uterus.

Listening to Your Baby:

Toward the end of your first trimester, we’ll use a stethoscope, fetoscope, or doppler so you can hear the beautiful sound of your baby’s heartbeat.

Nutritional Guidance:

A well-balanced diet is a cornerstone of a healthy pregnancy. We’ll chat about your nutrition and any cravings or concerns you have along the way.
